Hi all.
Sorry in advance if anyone else created a simmilar topick before but i don't remember seing one.
So how tidy are you?
Do you put all your stuff always at the same place after you finish using it or do you put things all over the place?
Personally i like to be tidy and i always put my stuff at the same place so i can find it when i need it again.
My oppinion is that for blind people it is very important that at least the floor should be tidy otherwise if we forget that we had something on the floor it might be dangerous.
Anyway i will wait for your replies to see what you think.
um, ok, you can see the floor of my room, but not the dressers, TV, or Stereo. lol. I'm neat enough, I just leave stuff sitting everywhere though.
Funny thing is, I get pissed at other people for not putting things back where they got them or leaving things on the floor, but I myself am not all that organized. I'm not a slob, I'm just not real organized even though I know being more organized would make life easier.
Same with me. For some things, I do have a place and try to put certain things back, such as the remote by the TV, and my notetakers and cell phone in a specific place. But most of my other stuff such as my books and toys can be disorganized in that I do have them in a certain place, but they're not all neat. I have tried to organize them, but I'm always in the process of going thru them or "looking at' them. I do agree though that it wouldn't be good for a blind person having stuff all over the floor, at least I personally don't like it. And the weird thing is that I have a niece and nephew who are small (3 and 6) who like to play with my toys and puzzles, and although I wouldn't mind, they usually don't clean up everything even when we tell them. I'm pretty picky about keeping everything together, such as things that come in sets and all that. So that's what I at least try to do for now. I think if I had my romm, or better yet, my own house, exactly the way I wanted it, it would be pretty tidy and organized. Well, I presonally doubt it will stay like that, being that I myself end up pulling stuff out and not putting some of it exactly where I got it, but at least everything will, originally have it's own place, or at least will have to be on top of something, as I will want to let my dogs run around the house, and you know how the curious kinds of dogs can be. *smile*
I am not very organised iether. I don't like people who are like to tidy, I remember once at school we were getting ready for the holidays and the warden was putting everything even my medication box and I couldn't find it anywhere.
I'm like Becky. When someone doesn't put anything of mine back where they got it I just want to slam them with something lol. But anyways I always try to put things back where they go. I even get mad at myself when I don't know where something is and I'm the one that misplaced it.

Oh I've been thru that before. I'm all mad when I really need something and can't fine it, and usually it's because I put it down and sometimes it can be in plain view or I had just forgotten where I put it. I feel so dumb after I calm down and end up finding it or when one of my sighted relatives easily finds it. *smile* It's funny, because sometimes the same happens to them, where they can't find something, and they of course are using their eyes to look everywhere, but sometimes I end up finding it because I "looked" under something or in a place where they just didn't see it. So both situations can be pretty frustrating but then they usually turn out interesting and/or funny. *Smiles*
I try and put things back, but I'm just terrible. If I'm reading something like a highstreet store catalogue (in Braille of course) or another book or magazine of some kind, I'll chuck that down the side of my bed, I'll just shove all my cassettes in a drawer willy nilly so I can't find the one I want later on, but funny thing is, I keep everything electrical tidy. I have my hairdryer, stereo, DVD player, TV, phone charger and VCR plugged in near my TV/stereo unit and each individual remote control placed on or near these various machines and players so I know where they are the next time I want to find them.
i'm one of those who puts something away, and then can't find it!
Quite Tidy, purely for the sake of the wee lads, who are always after everything their little hearts desire. As a teenager and up until 20, I was notoriously untidy, it just seemed like such a waste of time. But after getting my own flat in a nice area, I've changed and now clean up as best I can, as Alasdair creates a mess two steps behind.
I like to live in an organized mess. It's a mess to everyone else, but I can find things just fine. LOL.
I think being tidy and organized are relative terms. I think of tidy as clean. Organization, howeer, is relative. The simple definition here is that if you are organized, you can find what you're looking for. If you're not, you can't. As blind people, I think we have different organizational strategies than sighted people. The size of the pile of papers, the various sizes and shapes of boxes tell us things that sighted folks may not understand. Having said that, I agree with becky. Oh, I generally am not overly tidy, and am somewhat organized. Intelectually, I think it better to be organized and I try damn hard, but I don't think I want to make too much of an efort. Go figure!

I'd say I'm a little untidy with my clothes. Other things such as books, CD's and the like are organized. My books are in alphabetical order by author's last name, and since I ran out of space in my CD racks for the CD cases, they're stashed away in a cupboard on a shelf underneath my DVD collection. jus another project for me to do later lol
book collection completely out of order when I got back from Guide Dogs, but I'll get around to realphabetizing it eventually
realphabetized my book collection, and my mom has this nasty habit of moving my things without telling me. Gur'r'r'r'r'r!
Hi,
I used to be more tidy when I was younger. Now I physically can't as much thanks to my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. My fiance, Herbie is sooo untidy it's not funny and it makes me sad that I can't do more to help this place. I have a PCA who comes in and helps me clean and organize things though, which is nice. Just wish I was as able as I used to be. My best friend Linda however, is the queen of neatness. Whenever she comes to visit me, on average about once a year, she always helps to organize. The same is true for Herbie's mom who comes about once a year too.
Take Care,
Dawnielle
I love being neat with my stuff. I usually put my books and other things to where i got them, so that it would be easier for me to find what i need the next day. I like cleaning my desk and keeping things organized. I usually follow a schedule everyday, i can't help but look at the time ones i get done with my previous task, i make sure to attend to the next. Well, i enjoy being clean because if your surroundings are clean, you can also think clearly and that goes not only for cleaning rooms and places, but for everything.
i am a neat freak when it comes to the rest of the house. but in the bedroom, i have things on the floor by my side of the bed. but as far as the rest of the house is concerned. i always get after my husband to take his shoes off when he enters the house because i dont want shoes on the carpet and also it is disrespectful to wear shoes in a house. but he doesnt listen to me. as a result, i have to vaccume the floors like once or twice a week because i cant stand the feeling of dirt under my bare feet. and dishes and laundry i do as well. sometimes my husband pitches in too which i am glad of.
God! Tidy is something I'd just love my bedroom at home to be, so as a cool new year's resolution, I've cleared out some of those seriously babyish games and things I don't want in there anymore, so I have a tad more storage space in my bookshelf for my ever-increasing collections of Braille magazines, I'm probably going to tackle those even further and sort them in to order of years and months. Also, to mum's slight disappointment, some of my too-small or discoloured/old clothes're destined for the black bags and/or the rubbish tip, plus I might nick the cable tidy we orriginally bought for our desktop PC in the back room and tidy up all the tangled cables in here, so I know what's plugged in where without knocking a whole load of stuff over when I need to swap things round there, I'm going to clean out all my drawers of useless trash, sweet wrappers, Christmas wrapping papers and things. I'm just going to have a total blitz of this place once the Christmas tree and other festive deccorations're packed away on Saturday, because normally, you can't see either the floor or any of the shelves or surfaces in here, lol, so that seriously, has to change.
Jen. As for the rest of this house though, as I live with my mum still, I like to put everything back where I found it, clean up and wash up after myself when I'm finished in the kitchen or the bathroom, Etc Etc.
wow. yeah i am getting rid of some old clothes as well. i simply have too many
I am generally a pretty neat person. My closet is another story though. I live in an apartment and have made an effort to maintain it. While in college, I couldn't study propperly with a messy house. I also hate getting up to a sinkful of dirty dishes. So I try to do them before I go to bed. I agree that keeping a clean house does make one feel better. There's nothing like stepping into a clean house.
The floor of my closet was a disaster area, but ever since my mom, (after not listening to my pleas to let me do it myself), cleaned it up for me, it's not that cluttered anymore. Most if the stuff in there was thrown away as a result.
I go through stages. I'll go for a while where I clean and organize everything, then it'll driftt steadily towards a mess until I get annoyed enough with it all, and repeat the process. There are certain things I do usually put in a certain spot, but for the most part I drop things wherever. Most of the time though I have a general idea where things are, though I do sometimes lose things in the clutter. But on my desk it's quite possible that I'm the only one that could find what I'm looking for.
I like to keep my room tidy. I can't stand a messy room. I have everything organized and separated from my roommate's things and keep everything on my side of the room at my parent's house organized and on my side of the room, unlike my sister.. I also try to keep my things organized for school. The only thing I hate is putting up my dishes that r in the dish drainer at my dorm. I can think of ten million other things I'd rather do than that. My roommate never messes with them. Ironically, before I left home to go to college, one of my chores was to put up dishes! But anyway, I feel better with things organized. I don't like stepping on things just to get to the other side of the room.
i'm a slob
